We've all wondered at one time or another what it will be like after we die. For those who have chosen to accept the gift God offers the world through the sacrifice of his Son, some glimpses of that life after death are given in the Bible. Today's verse, Revelation 21:4 from the KJV, offers one such glimpse:

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

This verse presents a beautiful, caring image of God that is well worth committing to memory.

God bless you!

Well, I've been trying to get the schedule back on track but to no avail, so I'm resigning myself to the fact that The Living Word will be following a sporadic schedule throughout the summer. I'm a single dad and my daughter is on summer vacation, which means more opportunities to spend time with her and less opportunities to spend time podcasting. I will do my best to stay a close to daily as possible but family does come first. Thanks for your understanding.

"Christ died for you!" How many times have we seen this slogan on a bumper sticker or heard it on the radio? To someone who understands why Christ died those four words mean everything. But to anyone else they're nothing more than an admission that the man who claimed to be God did, in fact, die. Today's verse, 1 Peter 3:18 from the NLT, makes sure we know why Christ allowed his life to be taken, and why his death was the beginning and not the end:

Christ also suffered when he died for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners that he might bring us safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.

Powerful stuff, and the foundation upon which our faith is built. We would do well to memorize it for ourselves, and then share it with someone for whom an old slogan may take on a whole new meaning!

God bless you.

We've all heard the expression that "anything worth doing is worth doing well." It's true, and when we apply this philosophy to our lives in general, we make them richer and more fulfilling than they would be otherwise. Imagine then, what would happen if we applied it to our spiritual lives. Today's verse, Deuteronomy 6:5 from the NJKV, advises us to do just that:

You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

Jesus said this was one of the two most important commandments, so it's well worth memorizing as well as applying. As for second; Love your neighbor as yourself!

God bless you.

We've talked in the past about how God opens His arms to all those who seek him. But what about those who have found Him, wandered away, then realized their mistake? Is God as forgiving and loving towards them? Today's verse, Joel 2:13 from the NIV, offers an answer:

Return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and He relents from sending calamity.

If you've wandered away from God and aren't sure whether He'll be willing to take you back, keep this verse in mind as you reach out to Him. He will reach back.

God bless you.

When compared to eternity, our time here on earth is but the blink of an eye. Yet we spend the majority of our lives concerned about our earthly lives rather than our eternal ones. Today's verse, Mark 8:35 from the NLT, Jesus explains that our time would be much better spent the other way around:

'If you try to keep your life for yourself, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will find true life."

Think about this verse whenever you're faced with a choice to do something for yourself or something for God; the difference between short-term and long-term gain will take on a whole new meaning!

God bless you!

Did your parents ever try to influence who you hung out with as a kid? If so, they probably knew that who we spend time with can have a definite effect on who we are and who we grow into. This is definitely true of our spiritual lives as well. Today's verse, 2 Peter 1:3 from the NLT, encourages us to spend more time with Jesus:

As we know Jesus better, his divine power gives us everything we need for living a godly life.

Whenever you're faced with a choice as to how to spend your time, let this verse come to mind to help guide you.

God bless you.

Many kids games involve the idea of a "base"; a place where the player is safe from the turmoil of the game as it wages on around them. We can all remember back to that special feeling of security as we made it to base and knew that we couldn't be tagged or made "it". Often in life we feel the need for a base as well, and today's verse, Psalm 59:16 from the NIV, refers to the ultimate base as the psalmist sings praises to God:

I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.

Think about this verse whenever you need a safe place to run to.

God bless you!

There are many people who see a charitable contribution as a surefire way to generate some publicity for themselves. They write a check, then alert the media, or the church, or some friends, and bask in a few moments of glory. And while that may feed their egos and certainly benefit those to whom the money goes, it's not endearing them to God in any way. Today's verse, Matthew 6:1 from the KJV, comments on this:

Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.

It's worth keeping this verse in mind when considering how to share the blessings God has given you with others.

God bless you!

The two easiest Bible verses to memorize are probably John 11:35 and 1 John 4:16. John 11:35 is simply Jesus wept. He wept with friends who were grieving over the death of his friend Lazarus, just before he restored him to life. It[base ']s a great reminder to us that Jesus took the time to experience and share the trials and tribulations of life on earth with us. 1 John 4:16 is almost as simple: God is love. This one serves as a reminder of the true nature of God. Today's verse, 2 Thessalonians 3:5 from the NJKV, nicely combines the essence of each of these verses into a simple blessing:

May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ.

This verse is worth memorizing for those times when you or someone you care about could use a little direction.

God bless you!

The world around us is one that caters to human desires. Whatever your desire may be, you can find a way to fulfill it as long as the price is right. What we may not realize, however, is the true cost of giving in to those desires we know we shouldn't. Because what we may see as a harmless playground, God views as a spiritual battlefield. Today's verse, 1 Peter 2:11 from the NIV, offers some valuable advice on the subject:

Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.

It's worth taking this verse into consideration each time we're tempted to do something that we know we shouldn't.

God bless you!
