Today's edition of The Living Word stays in the book of John for a glimpse of eternity given by Jesus at the last supper: John 14:2 and 3. It speaks strongly of the personal relationship God desires to have with us both now and forever, and ties in nicely with our verses from yesterday.

Sadly, but also with the comfort of knowing that our loved ones are being taken care of, The Living Word is dedicated today to the memory of Margaret Sy. A good friend and co-worker, Margaret moved into her Father's house this past Saturday. I'll miss her.
I'm happy to announce the official launch of The Living Word podcast with this, the first of many podcasts to come. I decided to start out with two verses that every Christian should have memorized, as they declare the foundation of our faith: John 3:16 and 17. I realize that many of you may already know 3:16, but 3:17 is just as important as it makes it clear that the message of 3:16 (and the entire Bible for that matter) is one of salvation, not condemnation.

Sorry about the lack of updates...the Thanksgiving holiday and a bad round of migraines knocked me out for a week or so. I should be able to take care of that soon, however...I'm working on a new daily podcast with a "verse of the day" format and hope to launch it later today. Thanks for your patience.
Thanks Adam Curry for the passing mention in today's Daily Source
Code. For those of you visiting out of curiosity, welcome! This site is
still in a state of flux as I finalize the format(s) of the podcasts I'll be doing.
While the primarly focus will be on Christian-oriented
material, I also plan on doing some "behind the scenes" podcasts that
will cover the process of podcasting along with some general
life-oriented material that will be work-friendly and applicable to
everyone. The different styles of podcasts will be grouped into
categories so you'll be able to subscribe only to the ones you're
interested in.
At the moment the first behind the
scenes podcast is available, as are several
weekly messages from my home church, Horizon Christian
Fellowship
in Fairbanks Ranch, CA. I invite you to subscribe to either of these
category-based RSS feeds or to the main feed, if only to see where the
site goes in the upcoming months.
The Web site is officially live as of yesterday! GoDaddy.com
had some problems that required a phone call to get resolved but
everything now seems to be working as it should. I'm playing around
with 3 possible formats for the podcast and am going to start with something simple...creating an RSS feed for existing MP3 files, in this case my church's weekly messages. They're already in existence and already hosted on another server so all I have to do is get their permission to point to them and then create the RSS file.
This is a great way to get started quickly and test whatever method you're using to generate your RSS file. In the meantime you can be getting together your own MP3 creation process, making sure your server is set up, etc.
The idea for GodCast.org came
about the same day I first heard about podcasting. It was one of those
things that just click in your head in a way you can't explain, but
which is probably best compared to spontaneous combustion. In this case
it was no doubt helped by the fact that I had been praying for years
for God to show me a way in which I could use my talents to serve him.
I have a diverse background that includes varying degrees of experience
with radio, publishing, writing, sound engineering, software design,
research, and technology so podcasting was a perfect fit. Given my
faith and the role it plays in my life, a Christian podcast was a
given, but I don't feel strong enough as a Christian to be trying to
teach anyone. My first idea was to simply make my church's weekly
messages available via podcast (which will be the first thing I do),
but then I had the idea to create something that would introduce
listeners to some of the best Christian resources available on the Web.
So here we are.
As I write this, GodCast.org
is still in its early stages. The domain is registered, the hosting
company is finalizing its setup, and I'm waiting to be able to go live
with the blog side of it. At launch the site will be hosted by GoDaddy.com and I'll be using Radio Userland
to run everything. The next step will be to get my podcasting feet wet
with the material from my church and then I'll be ready to jump into
production. So stay tuned and thanks for reading!
